I'm kicking around the idea of putting some ballscrews on my 9x42 Bridgeport, possibly for a future cnc conversion but for now, just to fix some worn nuts with no more adjustment. Mcmaster sells a kit for 700 for both screws with nuts and the yolk. Mcmaster's part number is 29995A74. Pretty cheap for a bolt in deal. Accuracy is stated as +/ .003" per foot.

Bridgeport quill ball screw conversion. This will be a complete conversation using hiwin ground ball screws, dc servos, Machdrives BRA dual encoder servo drive along with Sino glass scales for the second encoder with mach3 or 4. Ball screws are required with a CNC mill. While CNC control is on the servo or stepper holds the screws tight all the time. In manual though the ball screws will move (creep) when not intended. The original acme screw has more hold on the non moving axis. So if you have ball screws you need to always tighten down the non moving axis.

We can hold straightness on machined screws to as little as .002"/foot (screw diameter and length dependent). Temperature range for our ball screws is between 65ºF. (54ºC) and 300ºF. (149ºC) with suitable lubricants.

Jan 12, 2018. #1. I recently purchased a Bridgeport mill that was originally outfitted as a CNC by MillPWR. All of the CNC specific equipment, controls, servos, etc. were stripped from the machine, basically rendering it strictly manual. It does however have the original precision ground ballscrews for the X and Y axes.
