#1 Hey all! I have a Northern Brewer Hullwrecker. I've had this since December 2020 and have brewed quite a bit with this. At first it worked great! Then about 9 months in or so it quit grabbing the grains. I found the "How to clean the grain mill" post in these forums and that fixed the issue.

The Kwik crusher model has a large steel drum with bars welded on that processes the cobs through a screen, then the sized material goes through the rollers. This was for dairy cows.

I BIAB and crushed for a while with my mill gap set at ". As someone mentioned, the mill stopped grabbing the kernels after a few batches at that setting, so I opened the gap up to ". Feeler gauges are cheap and readily available at auto supply and hardware stores. If you have a roller mill, you should have a set of feeler gauges. Brew on

This is the answer. Coronastyle mills just do not crush at the coarseness for a lauter system (or a recirculating mash system). Some people make it work, but a standard roller mill will give a much better crush for setting the lauter grain bed and preventing stuck sparges.

Geared up by for rpm's this drops TQ to in/lbs or in/lbs per inch of roller length. This turning 2" rollers on a mill with 6" long 3 roller mill. This would be the same as a 1 1/2" roller mill turning at rpm's if you match the surface speed of the rollers in inches per minute.

At least 60+ inLb torque at whatever your speed, but 175 RPM is a sweet spot. Mine is a 1725 RPM 1/3 HP that gives me 100 inLb torque at 172 RPM with aid of a 10:1 ratio gearbox (reducer). This is an easy motor to find on ebay. So, I'd not go any less than 1/4 HP, to directly answer your question. OP. A.

Devil's advocate: taking apart and cleaning our mill was the difference between a lot of downtime or getting a batch brewed. If there's enough junk gumming up the bearings and the clearance between the rollers and the mill body are clogged up it can create enough resistance that the slave roller doesn't catch. Reply.

The 2 roller process has to get all this done in one violent action that explodes everything usually resulting in more than a few husk pieces per kernel. All things considered and final gap being equal, the 3 roller makes a grist that is more huskfluffy like what a 2 roller mill produces with preconditioned malt.

The kegco mills also use ball bearings and harder rollers than the BC. In case I didnt mention it earlier, the 2 roller kegco, keg king maltmunchier and cereal killer are the very same mill just rebranded. The 3 roller version also has the ball bearing which like max stout mentioned is a superior design.

Clean it up. Next, push the frames together to minimize the endplay on the rollers, and then bolt one frame down completely. Next move the other end of the mill around and feel for the center of the freeplay. Put the other frame in the center of this freeplay, and snug down the bolts.
