This milling machine head is different than described. Either there were other models of the "B" or important components were removed. Mine is #231. The information is that, it is a MT#3 head but mine is BS #7 and the equivalent MT #2 were sold. The problem comes to the motor mounting some decades later.

The Fray B head is actually heavier than a Bridgeport "M" or "R" head. It has a relatively large quill with tapered roller bearings, a 3/4" wide key along the quill,plus a lock. All this was concentrated on a rather small nose extending out 2". This nose could drive an end mill into otherwise non accessible areas in other works.

I too had never heard of a Fray before I bought this one. Ran lots of turret mills from B'port, to Tree, Supermax, Alliant, Wells Index, Excello, Lagun, and others which I cannot remember the names. In the advertising literature Frays were called "all angle" machines. Mine is the #7 which is pictured at the bottom of the page on Tony's site.

A while back I got a Fray Model 11/2 mill with a Type 4 head. After removing the head to give it a clean up I noticed that the worm gear that's used to adjust the angle has many teeth broken off. Obviously it's been broken a few times in the past, and the previous owner clocked it at a different spot so the teeth would still engage.
